Sort a list alphabetically, one value per line

Paste your lines and get them back in order. The sort is natural, so item2 comes before item10. You can switch to a comma separated list at any time.

Example

This input:

pear
Apple
banana
Cherry
apple2
apple10

gives this output with the settings on this page:

Apple
apple2
apple10
banana
Cherry
pear

Sort in one step

Paste the lines in the left box. The sorted list appears on the right, one value per line. To sort from Z to A, or by numeric value, change the Sort menu in Options.

Upper and lower case letters sort together, so Apple sits next to apple and not far from banana. Accented letters sort next to their base letter.

Natural order for numbers in text

A plain sort puts item10 before item2, because 1 comes before 2. This tool compares the numbers inside the text, so item2 comes before item10. For columns that hold only numbers, pick Numbers, small first. It sorts 9 before 10 and understands 1,234 style thousands.

Clean while you sort

  • Tick Remove duplicates to get a sorted list of unique values.
  • Choose Title Case or lower case under Letter case if the data is inconsistent.
  • Choose Comma in the Separator menu to get a sorted comma separated list.
