How to load 315 lb

A 315 lb barbell is three 45 lb plates on each side of a 45 lb bar. Lifters call it "three plates", and it is a strong milestone for the squat and the deadlift.

  1. Subtract the bar. 315 lb minus 45 lb is 270 lb.
  2. Divide by 2. Each side carries 135 lb.
  3. Load three 45 lb plates on each side. Put the heaviest plate against the shoulder of the bar.
  4. Add a collar to each sleeve and check that both sides look the same.

A 315 lb squat or deadlift is a common goal for intermediate lifters. A 315 lb bench press is an advanced lift.

A tip for 315 lb

With six big plates the sleeve gets crowded. If your plates are thick, check that the collar still closes. Bumper plates are thicker than iron plates of the same weight.
