Board and Batten Calculator is a free tool for people who plan a board and batten wall. You enter the wall width, the batten width and either the number of battens or the gap you like. It gives you the exact gap, a pencil mark for every batten, a drawing to scale and the number of boards to buy.

What it does

Dividing a wall by hand is easy to get wrong, and a small error shows as one odd gap at the corner. The tool gives the gap in feet, inches and sixteenths, and shows the layout on a drawing before you cut anything.

How it works

The page runs in your browser. We do not ask you to create an account, and the sizes you enter are not sent to us. The link in your address bar holds your numbers, so you can bookmark a layout or send it to a friend.

A note on accuracy

The math is exact. Marks are rounded to the nearest 1/16 inch, which is as fine as most tape measures. Real walls are not always square, so measure the wall in two or three places and use the smallest width. Check the marks against a level line before you nail.
